Leonardo Bancher – Banker came with his parents from the town of Siror near Trento, Italy, to Tuzla in his youth and after schooling was a construction worker, inheriting the profession of his father Domenico. The Bancher family was entrepreneurially oriented, had a property in Solina, but also had a very open attitude towards the protection of workers' rights. As a revolutionary and opponent of the then regime, Leonardo Banker was sentenced in Tuzla in 1932 to 5 years in prison, which he was supposed to spend in Sremska Mitrovica. He died in the prison hospital on May 11, 1936 as a result of prison torture and hunger strike. in Belgrade. The revolutionary path of Banker is known to the public, as well as the revolutionary path of all members of his family – wife Ljubica, sons Bruna and Rinaldo, and daughter Vesna. Nurturing the culture of memory, UGIP "Rino Zandonai" Tuzla is celebrating 90 years since the death of Leonard Banker.
The program marking 90 years since the death of the revolutionary Leonard Banker consists of an exhibition of photos and documents about Leonard Banker, an ambient performance and a Banker memorial at his monument in Belgrade. Banker was a fighter for workers' rights, a man who believed in social justice and the dignity of the common man. Even today, it is a symbol of a time, but also a permanent reminder of how dearly the freedom and rights of workers were paid before the Second World War.
